Patrick J. Monahan was appointed as Vice-President Academic & Provost of York University, effective July 1, 2009.

The Vice President Academic and Provost (VPA & P) is the Chief Academic Officer and senior Vice-President of the University. The VPA & P takes a leadership role in setting academic goals, establishing institutional priorities, and allocating resources across the University.

The VPA & P seeks to foster a culture of academic excellence at York University. This includes the recruitment of outstanding students, and the continued development and provision of high-quality academic programs consistent with the University's mission and goals. The VPA & P supports the Deans in the recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty and the fulfillment of academic objectives and aspirations of Faculties and Research Units.

The VPA & P also supports the President in advancing external relationships and strategic institutional initiatives.
